About Me

I am both a studio artist and a practitioner of theatre design, management and technology. This diverse set of abilities and experiences enables me to create aesthetically appropriate work within realistic budgets and in many levels of technical sophistication.  I have a particular expertise working with theatre for young audiences through educational experiences and 20 years as a producer and director of a professional summer theatre for young audiences.  I have designed over 250 productions of theatre, musical theatre, opera and dance in a variety of professional and academic venues.  In the studio I work primarily in oil, acrylic and mixed media.  Works are available for purchase.  -  Bill Buck

My Work

Scenic Design

A Scene Designer experienced in a  variety of styles and genres.  I enjoy creating aesthetic solutions within reasonable budgets and on schedule.  I work to develop a design vocabulary that supports the overall production concept in total collaboration with artistic and technical colleagues.

Lighting Design

Colleagues suggest that I have a unique sensitivity to the lighting needs of a production.  I enjoy lighting assignments that require subtleties of movement and color.  Lights may be bold when conceptually appropriate, but may also poetically recede when that is appropriate to the design aesthetic.  A member of United Scenic Artists in the lighting category.

Studio Art and Craft

Throughout my career I have worked in all areas of studio art and performance craft.  I enjoy scene painting and dimensional stage art.  I am also a props artisan, carpenter, furniture maker and puppet maker.  I am an accomplished studio artist, working primarily in oil and acrylic.  Please contact me regarding the availability of studio artwork, prints and cards for purchase.
